PVA’s newest Deputy Chief will focus on professional development and innovative care
Pittsford Volunteer Ambulance announced today that they have promoted Education Manager Amanda Martin to the rank of Deputy Chief, effective immediately. Deputy Chief Martin, previously responsible for community and staff training, will be responsible for the oversight of staff professional development, clinical care and for community outreach and education.
This role is new, and builds on years of foundational work. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics are required by New York State to participate in a prescribed amount of continuing education classes each year. Access to this training can be difficult as can be the balance between family and work obligations. In her new role, Deputy Chief Martin will work to break down these professional barriers, providing content that is accessible to our staff and is effective at building a team that leads the charge in innovating out-of-hospital medical care. Additionally, her work in building out our community education offerings continues to be an important focus, helping train triple the number of people in CPR and First Aid in 2023 than the year before.
“This is an important and exciting investment into our community,” says Chief Jonathan Smith. “By creating a team dedicated to innovating education for our staff and those in our sphere of influence, we improve recognition, intervention and patient outcomes for all who live, work and play in our community.”
Martin joined PVA in 2021, having previously worked as an EMT, Paramedic and Training Manager for several regional EMS organizations. In the last year, she has tripled the number of community members trained in CPR and First Aid, and continues to foster partnerships with local groups and organizations.
