Emergency Response Services
PVA also provides non-emergency, Community Services to Pittsford residents.
Basic Life Support
All responders at Pittsford Volunteer Ambulance are trained and prepared to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) services within the Town of Pittsford. Each BLS responder is trained to address immediately threatening injuries and medical conditions. BLS skills include CPR, AED operation, hemorrhage control, splinting and bandaging, and administration of limited medications.
Advanced Life Support
Many of our responders have completed advanced training and serve as Paramedics. These providers are trained to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS), and provide medical treatment for complex traumatic and medical emergencies. Each Paramedic may perform electrocardiograms (ECG), place IVs, administer medications, perform advanced airway management, and other invasive and non-invasive medical procedures.
Through the concept of distributed practice, all EMTs and Paramedics in New York State work under the auspice of a licensed Physician Medical Director. Each of our Paramedics and EMTs work directly with our Medical Director, and the Medical Control physicians in all area hospitals, to ensure clinical skill and decision-making that is of the highest quality.
Mutual Aid
As a New York State certified ambulance service, PVA is an active participant in providing reciprocal mutual-aid with our partners in surrounding communities. If PVA needs additional resources to manage an emergency, this relationship allows us to count on our partners to help us help you. Similarly, PVA is prepared to support any of the neighboring communities’ ambulance services if additional resources are required.
