PITTSFORD, NY: After nearly two years of contract negotiations, the region’s first fully-funded EMS workforce development program is now recruiting prospective EMT candidates. Originally announced in May 2023, the program will pay prospective EMTs for their participation, tuition and supplies, with opportunities for wrap-around service coverage, in an effort to rebuild the EMS workforce in Monroe County.
Funded by $4.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars, the program aims to train 158 new EMTs from every corner of Monroe County through partnerships with Monroe Community College, Monroe Ambulance and American Medical Response (AMR) – Rochester. Additionally, the program seeks to fund 50 new paramedics from the ranks of Monroe County’s EMS Agencies’ existing EMTs.
